Planning and Designing Your Landscape With an Expert Landscape Company

Author: Chris Martin

When it comes to landscaping your property, there are a list of things to consider. Landscaping is more than just plants and trees, mulches, gravels and maintenance. Every single space is unique and every square foot of the property has its own set of opportunities and challenges. However, a well planned, designed and constructed landscape can offer years of functionality, beauty, entertainment and value.

Planning Phase

Let's start with the planning phase. This can be one of the most exciting but daunting phases of the entire landscaping process. As you begin to consider upgrading or renovating your landscape, most will find that a lot of questions need to be answered. What is my current landscaping lacking and what do I need? What do I want? What current issues am I experiencing? How much will this cost? Would I be able to undertake this project myself or should I hire a landscaping professional? If I hire someone who can I trust or who do I know? And the list of questions goes on and on! But you have to start somewhere. The beauty is we live in a time in which we have information, videos, blogs and a library of examples at our fingertips. Many people will begin the landscape planning process with a basic internet search of landscaping ideas. Instantly, they will find thousands of options ranging from DIY landscaping to full custom landscapes that are designed and installed by a professional landscaping company. The internet is a great place to start. After you have decided what you want or need, you can start searching for those things and you are guaranteed to find some good resources online. However, many people would prefer to trust a qualified landscaping professional to plan, design and install a quality landscape. Whatever route you decide to go the planning phase is a key component to any new or upgraded landscape.

Design Phase

Next up is the design phase. This is when it gets truly real and very exciting. You have nailed down your wants and needs and are ready to see what your landscape currently has to offer and what it can be. During this phase you will begin to put the pieces together and see the potential your property and your landscape has to offer. A great way to enter into your design phase is to find a qualified landscaping company who specializes in landscape design and installation. A qualified local landscaping expert will have the knowledge, experience and tools necessary to help you create the perfect design for your new landscaping project. Not only will they help you in designing your landscape, but the landscaping company you choose will need to know how to overcome some obstacles that you will almost always face. Things such as drainage, irrigation, soil, building materials, plant types and species that will thrive and complement your landscape, trees, privacy, functionality and more will all need to be considered in the design phase. Even if you decide to design your landscape on your own these things will all need to be carefully brainstormed in order to give you the best results when it comes time to install and maintain your new landscape. Even after 10 years of successful landscape design and installation, we at Love For Lawns, still find new challenges and opportunities on every single project we design and install. So I strongly suggest talking to a local landscaping company like Love For Lawns who has experience in all aspects of landscaping design, installation and maintenance. This will save you a lot of time, energy and headache.

Installation and Completion Phase

Once the design is created and approved it is time to get to work. What most people don't realize is how extremely labor intensive landscaping your property can be. Here in the Greater Austin, Texas area we have a set of landscaping challenges that some other geographic locations may or may not experience. The extreme climate changes, droughts, floods, drainage issues, and the rocky and unforgiving soil are just a few of the things that you will face when you start to begin prepping, installing and maintaining you landscape. Fortunately, an expert local landscaping company has the experience and the equipment necessary to handle all of these challenges. During the installation phase layouts, shapes, sizes and locations will be discussed and approved. All of the prep will be completed as the landscaping professionals begin to build and install the components from the initial design. As the installation continues changes and modifications may need to be made. An expert landscaping company will help you make any modifications and solve all landscaping obstacles to ensure that the vision and design can be implemented to your specific wants and needs.

Maintaining After Installation

Once your new landscaping design is built and installed you will need to know how to properly maintain your landscape for many years of beauty. A landscape that was designed and installed correctly will help you lower maintenance costs and time, but every landscape, no matter what, will need some level of maintenance after the installation is complete. We at Love For Lawns recommend making sure the landscaping company you choose is highly qualified and well educated in low maintenance landscaping. A good landscaping company will design and install your landscape with low maintenance options in mind so that you can spend more time enjoying your landscape rather than working on your landscape. After all installations have been completed and the maintenance advice and instructions have been given, a thorough final walkthrough should be completed to guarantee you are 100% satisfied with your new landscape. And now it is time to sit back, relax and enjoy every detail of your newly installed landscape design.

The Love For Lawns Process

For the initial planning phase we have compiled an extensive library of samples, examples, visuals, videos, materials, plants, trees, styles and options for every unique situation. You will begin this process with one of our expert senior Landscaping Designers and Estimators. They will provide you with all of the materials and resources needed to help you answer all of your pre-planning and planning questions. They will help you discover all of your wants and needs, discuss current challenges and offer expert landscaping solutions. Together you and your expert landscape designer and estimator will formulate a plan and move on to the next phases. At the next phase you will begin to design your landscape. Depending on the size and scope of the project, digital designs may be offered or you may just need a few visuals and examples to move to the next step. Whatever the need is, our team will make sure that you are satisfied, prepared and ready to move on to the next step of installing your new landscape. During the installation phase your Love For Lawns Designer and Estimator will introduce you to the project managers. We assign project managers and project coordinators to every single landscaping project that we do. Your Love For Lawns project manager will perform an initial walkthrough with you to make sure everything that was planned, designed and estimated will be implemented during the installation process. Your project manager and coordinators will work closely with you to ensure you are informed during the entire process and also help you with any modifications or estimate changes necessary to keep the project moving forward with excellence and quality. At the completion of the landscaping project your project manager and the landscaping crew will complete a final walkthrough where they will go over each area that has been completed. During this final walkthrough you will be informed on what was done and educated on proper maintenance. We will make sure the installation matches your initial plan, design and/or all estimated line items were performed to your satisfaction. Most importantly before the Love For Lawns team exits your property they will ensure that everything is cleaned up and it looks like we were never there so you can start enjoying your landscape from the very second we walk off.

It is our desire and focus at Love For Lawns to offer each customer a landscape that can be enjoyed for many years and you receive a positive experience that can be remembered and shared with all of your friends, family and neighbors!
